Journey Through the Lens

June 26, 2024

An exhibition of works by Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya of Thailand opens at the Leica Gallery Frankfurt on 28 June 2024.
From 28 June to 17 August 2024, Leica Gallery Frankfurt presents photographs by HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya. The exhibition offers insights into the work of the royal, who has a particular skill for capturing candid moments. Her penchant for visual storytelling is also reflected in her travel photographs, in which she documents her multi-faceted impressions with a meticulous eye.

The medium of photography and specifically the connection with Leica have a long tradition within the royal family. The Princess’s grandfather, King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, was an enthusiastic Leica photographer. In 1995, on the 50th anniversary of his reign, Leica Camera released a gold-plated limited edition of the M6 in support of a large-scale environmental project in Bangkok. In addition, Leica donated an (also gold-plated) M6 with the serial number 2,000,000 to the royal environmental project. The camera was sold at a fundraising auction benefiting the project.

Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya has been a passionate Leica photographer since her trip to Kenya in 2018. The images shown at the Leica Gallery Frankfurt range from scenes captured in Egypt and Venice, to the picturesque landscapes of Thailand – including Sam Phan Bok and Ubon Ratchathani.

The exhibition also features a selection of the royal’s fashion photographs, which illustrate the influence of her travels on the collections of her SIRIVANNAVARI brand – offering insight into the inspiration behind her designs.
