Depictions of the human face have always held a deep fascination. So it is perhaps unsurprising that portrait photography counts among the medium’s most popular genres to this day. The Getty Museum in Los Angeles celebrates this mesmerising art-form with the exhibition In Focus: Expressions, which will be on view from 22 May. A total of 45 selected works present the audience with a wide range of countenances and emotions – inviting each viewer to create personal interpretations of what they see. The result is an intriguing exploration of the relationship between visible facial expressions and the internal experience of the human mind.
In Focus: Expressions was curated by Karen Hellman, and continues to be on display at the J. Paul Getty Museum until 7 October 2018.
