"This image is a little miracle of the kind that photography can bring. I was intending to portray a group of fishermen. In the time it took me to go and get my equipment, they had disappeared, and I came face to face with this young woman. After having convinced her to pose for me, I discovered that she was English, a poet and a musician, that she was travelling in a van built by her father, and that it had a piano. She shared her meal with me (samosas she made herself). But above all, the colour of her clothes, of her van, of the sky: everything was in place, as though I'd spent a whole day working on the décor with a stylist, when, in fact, it was all there by chance."
