With numerous photographs complemented by documentary material, the story of 35mm photography from its beginnings up until today is recapitulated. Overall, the exhibition follows the evolution of the technology and the story of photography. Divided into chapters, the display highlights the different aspects of the new 35mm photography – from journalistic strategies and documentary approaches, all the way to artistic works.
The exhibition includes works by Alexander Rodtschenko, Ilse Bing, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, Christer Strömholm, Bruce Davidson, Inge Morath, William Eggleston, René Burri, Susan Meiselas, Thomas Hoepker, Bruce Gilden and many more.
In Vienna, the touring exhibition is presented by the WestLicht Photo Museum and the OstLicht Gallery. WestLicht is home to the classic part of the selection, OstLicht shows the contemporary part.
