Eclipse, First Quarter

Where does the light go to escape? In search of answers, Daniel Huete and Natthaya Thaidecha set out to capture the uncertainty that lies dormant in their subconscious, amid pain and fear.
In recent years, Daniel Huete and Natthaya Thaidecha have gone through different phases of their "being", and have fought personal battles that they hid from in the past. This resulted in the Eclipse project - photographs that were not originally part of a larger plan, but initially only served as a means to find out who they were. In the end this project was even able to give solace in the art of making pictures without borders.

If these pictures could talk, what would these pictures be telling the viewer?
For me this imagery already creates questions such as: what is this? In doing so, it sort of makes you curious about the story. We want to give the viewers space to imagine and question everything.

You told me that you found solace in the art of image-making. Could you elaborate on this?
At that specific time, I had just came back to Thailand after shooting my project in Spain, which talks about my memories, childhood and the death of my mother. Eclipse is about fear and sadness, and being able to confront it even if you are afraid. It talks about temporary darkness.

You and another photographer realized this project together under the name BAD EYES. How was this collaboration?
I’m currently living in Bangkok. There are many great, local photographers and artists in Thailand, and I decided to work with Natthaya Thaidecha because of her approach to image making. She brought in this fresh, unstructured style and fluidity to the work. This is exactly what I needed at that time to keep going. BAD EYES is a collective, using photography to communicate our perspective and place in the world. We also use it as a self-publishing house and run a small blog sharing stories that relate to who we are.

Are there more chapters to come?
That is open-ended. We have talked about it and we think it might not be the same visually; but for sure there are more stories to come.
