All of Paris in a Frame

November 14, 2024

Through to 21 December 2024, Cologne’s In Focus Gallery presents a group exhibition dedicated to the city on the Seine.
The exhibition brings together a unique collection of photographs by world-renowned artists such as Ilse Bing, Edouard Boubat, Jean-Philippe Charbonnier, Elliott Erwitt, René Groebli, Frank Horvat, Walde Huth, Thomas Kellner, Willy Maywald, Marc Riboud, Willy Ronis, Louis Stettner and Sabine Weiss. With the majority of the featured works created between 1950 and 1980, the showcase offers a fascinating glimpse into the Parisian way of life during this time, while typical landmarks only put in a rare or peripheral appearance.

Together, the exhibits convey a sense of nostalgia as they portray the spirited urban atmosphere typically associated with the French capital. Lovers, clochards, fashion, bistros, dogs, scenes of the city’s nightlife and bridges over the Seine make up the kaleidoscope of images, along with the often overlooked details of everyday life: passers-by, shop window displays, staircases, parks, billboards and street-lamps.

The result is a magical visual journey that captures both the lives of ordinary people and the charm of Paris as the city of love, fashion, nightlife and café culture.
