Within the framework of a collaboration with Kinder in Not e.V. (Children in Distress e.V.), Alexander von Wiedenbeck travelled to the Philippines to document the situation of the children and the aid agency’s work there.

The aid agency’s projects help children living in cemeteries and garbage dumps. The background reasons for their situation are diverse: some live there with their families, others have lost their parents, or have been thrown out by their parents, or have run away from them.

This was the setting for Widenbeck’s Hope series: with high-contrast, black and white images, he reveals the children’s suffering on the one hand, while also conveying a sense of hope. Crowd funding has produced a touring exhibition as well as a photo book, which aims to draw attention to the situation of the children and to the work of Kinder in Not. All proceeds from the sale of the book and from the exhibition go to the project in the Philippines.

Kinder in Not e.V. works directly with local partners and supports, among other things, a hospital, five health centres, an agricultural project and numerous children’s homes, schools and training centres.
