Originally scheduled for spring 2020, the 11th Darmstadt Days of Photography are now set to take place from September 12, 2020 to February 28, 2021.
Twelve exhibitions by 49 international photographers will be displayed in numerous venues across the city. A central element is the festival’s 10,000-euro Merck Award, which will be given out for the 8th time. This year’s overall theme is ‘Absurd Perspectives – Humour in Photography’.
On the weekend of September 12 & 13, 2020, the exhibition programme kicked off with the opening of ‘Home, Sweet Home’ (curated by the Art Forum of the TU Darmstadt), as well as ’Living Together’ and ‘Heide Stolz. Affairs’ (Kunsthalle Darmstadt).
The festival week starts on October 23, 2020, with the grand ceremony for the 8th Merck Award. The programme also includes an international symposium, scheduled for October 24, 2020. Additional off-space exhibitions in non-traditional settings complete the trail of showcases across the city.
