In her latest series of works, currently on display in New York City, where she’s lived since 2005, Russian artist Natalya Nova poses naked for her Leica S-System. However these are far from your ordinary nudes – in many of these magical, psychedelic compositions it takes a long time to notice her at all.
To begin with, Nova photographs her surroundings and arranges them into kaleidoscopic patterns, so that trees grow into fractal explosions of colour and Manhattan’s skyline becomes a distorted frame. Then, she projects these images onto herself and takes a self-portrait; and in so doing, she turns her body into something like a projection screen, or a roll of photographic film, itself.
