This year at Photokina the cards have been reshuffled in favour of the L mount. Until now only certain cameras from the Leica range were equipped with an L mount; but in the future it will be possible to harmoniously combine many of the cameras and lenses produced by the three partners – Leica, Panasonic and Sigma. As a result, the mount they will be using jointly in the future, will continuously evolve and be strengthened.
The history of the robust L mount has already proved its versatility: while its size offered space for the Leica SL’s small format sensor, the compact APS-C cameras such as the Leica CL and TL are also equipped with this lens mount. It is now clear that the collaboration offers all kinds of potential: with three manufacturers rather than one, the corresponding possibilities will surely grow. Consequently, the L mount will evolve to become a flexible bayonet that will meet the most exacting demands of photographers.
