Born in Homberg/Efze in 1973, Umbach graduated as a Communications Designer from the FH Darmstadt in 1999. He moved to New York in 1997, while still studying.in 1997. His photographic emphasis lies of editorial portraits (British Vogue, New Yorker, brand eins, London Telegraph Magazine) and commercial productions for IBM, Mercedes Benz, and American Express. Since 2009, Umbach has been living in Hamburg and in New York.
