Tim Hetherington Grant 2013

November 13, 2013

This year, the Tim Hetherington Grant was awarded to Olivier Jobard for his series "Dream of a Rain of Perfume"
Former Taliban members Jaweed and Rohani are now, themselves, on the run from the Taliban. Olivier Jobard followed the men's journey equipped with photo and film cameras. The French photographer was awarded the Tim Hetherington Grant for his "Dream of a Rain of Perfume" series, about the young Afghans' attempt to escape to Europe. The 20,000 euros in prize money will help Jobard complete his project.

From the human aspect
“When observing these men, whose past found them fighting for the Taliban but then saw them experience a change towards the western world, one is automatically drawn into their lives and wanting to know more,” is how the jury explains their decision. The Tim Hetherington Grant was founded in 2011 by Human Rights Watch and World Press Photo. It was created in memory of the British photo journalist and film maker, Tim Hetherington, who was killed in Libya on April 20, 2011. The grant is awarded every year.
