September 28, 2013

National Geographic Germany have honoured Ekkehard Gnadler as Photographer of the Year. His winning image of a village festival in Zanzibar was shot with the Leica R4
A village celebration on the island of Zanzibar, captured with an old Leica R4 and an Elmarit-R 90mm f/2: this image earned Ekkehard Gnadler the title of Photographer of the Year, awarded by National Geographic Germany. The photograph, which had been submitted in the category of "Movement", was chosen from a pool of almost 5,000 entries in six categories.

The photographer was honoured on 12 September as part of the opening evening for the National Geographic Anniversary Exhibition, currently showing at the Headquarters of Gruner & Jahr Publishing in Hamburg. To mark the 125th anniversary of National Geographic Germany, the exhibition (open until 13 October) features a selection of the very best images throughout the magazine's history. Gnadler's photograph will also be published in the anniversary issue (10/2013).
