The system gains maturity
Seven years after the Leica I A, Leitz introduced the Leica II, once again at the Leipzig Spring Fair.

The fundamental differences to the previous model could be seen in the body, the viewfinder, and the new rangefinder – a design that would define virtually all screw mount Leicas up until production was stopped in 1960.

The Leica II itself was manufactured up until 1948. In November 2012, one of the cameras, the first Leica belonging to Magnum co-founder Robert Capa, was auctioned at Westlicht for 78,000 euros.
