Kulturpreis 2016

Leica photographer Wolf Böwig has received the 10,000 euro Kulturpreis of the hannoverschen Landeskirche.
Wolf Böwig has received the 10,000 euro Kulturpreis of the hannoverschen Landeskirche (Culture Prize of the Hanover State Church). The prize was not given for a specific piece of work by the Leica photographer, but for his approach and body of work to date.

Arranged in part as collages, Böwig’s (*1964) images bring together elements of artistic and documentary photography, defining his particular way of capturing the causes of war and flight in pictures. Over the past 30 years, the photographer has travelled repeatedly to a number of regions - the Horn of Africa, the Balkans, and South East Asia – to document the situations there over longer periods of time.

After 2010 and 2013, the Kulturpreis of the hannoverschen Landeskirche is now being awarded for the third time. It aims to support contemporary art and applies to film, the visual arts, literature, music and theatre. The 5000 euro Kulturförderpreis (culture sponsorship award) went to the author Shida Bazyar for her début novel, Nachts ist es leise in Teheran (It’s quiet in Teheran at night).
