Sally Mann in Rome

July 19, 2017

The Gagosian Gallery in Rome currently presents the exhibition ‘Remembered Light: Cy Twombly in Lexington’ with works by Sally Mann. The exhibition ends on 8 September 2017.
Until 8 September, Rome's Gagosian Gallery presents Remembered Light: Cy Twombly in Lexington – the first exhibition by Sally Mann to be shown in the Italian capital. The American photographer (born 1951) first gained international acclaim with a series of 65 black and white images taken with a large-format camera, predominantly featuring her own three children. Published in 1992 under the title Immediate Family, the photo book was lauded by critics, not least for the personal nature of its theme.

The exhibition in Rome consists of Mann's project about the US-American painter and photographer Cy Twombly. The mostly black and white images, spanning the period from 1999 to 2012, represent a tender, personal and also very vibrant homage to the photographer's long-time friend and mentor.
