Erwin Wurm in Paris

March 2, 2020

A retrospective of the Austrian artist’s work will be on display at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris from March 4 to June 7, 2020.
The showcase Erwin Wurm – Photographs opens at the MEP in Paris on March 4, continuing until June 7, 2020. The Austrian photographer, film-maker and sculptor (b.1954) is renowned as the creator of the One Minute Sculpture – a project in which museum visitors are instructed to assume unconventional poses with everyday objects. Once these ephemeral ‘sculptures’ have been recorded in photographic form, the participants resume their lives.

In this comprehensive retrospective the MEP presents a selection of around 200 prints, including numerous unpublished images from the artist’s private archive. The displayed works go far beyond documenting a situative process: for Wurm, photography is not merely a means of cataloguing his performative orchestrations, but represents a “sculptural medium” in its own right.
