This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Photo España Festival: from 6 June to 26 August, visitors can immerse themselves in a multi-faceted celebration of photography and visual arts. More than 530 artists will participate in the festival, which is set to encompass 76 venues in Madrid.
The jubilee edition of Photo España also marks the 10th anniversary of the Trasatlántica photography forum – a platform designed to bring together photographers, academics and art critics in South and Central America.
This year’s Carte Blanche programme is curated by National Photography Award winner Cristina de Middel: having chosen the theme ‘Players’, she expanded the festival by five additional exhibitions, featuring works by artists who have explored the boundaries of the photographic medium – sometimes by combining it with other disciplines such as cinema, painting or sculpture.
