‘The Sampsons’, curated by Josefine Raab, will be on show at the Kulturbäckerei Lüneburg from 28 June to 18 August 2019.
To create the series, Berlin-based photography artist Rebecca Sampson went in search of her own heritage by getting to know her American father’s family: from the nun who does not believe in self-doubt, to a knife-collecting teen; from an aunt who makes a living as a dump truck driver, to a proud, gun-loving and not entirely predictable prison guard. The result is an intimate and powerful portrait of an American Midwestern family.
Rebecca Sampson studied under Ute Mahler at the Ostkreuz School for Photography in Berlin. She is considered one of the most exciting emerging photographers in Germany today.
