Streamlines

December 15, 2015

Haus der Photographie and Deichtorhallen Hamburg present the group exhibition 'Streamlines', focusing on seaways, global trade and migration. The show continues until 13 March 2016.
Fifteen artistic projects on seaways, global trade and migration are the focus of the exhibition 'Streamlines', showing at the Deichtorhallen exhibition centre in Hamburg until 13 March 2016. Assembled by the internationally renowned curator Koyo Kouoh (based in Dakar, Senegal), the presentation revolves around the themes of international trade and migration in the context of Hamburg's past, present and future position as a 'gateway to the world'.

The exhibition's thematic emphasis is on the 'oceans of the sixth continent' – an exploration of trading routes that have been used since the 19th century to transport goods across oceans, the control of which remains of great economic and political significance to this day.

'Streamlines' is the result of an invitation issued to contemporary artists from any part of the world with a strong historical link to the Port of Hamburg. Among the participating artists are 'Documenta' photographers Kader Attia, Ulrike Ottinger and Alfredo Jaar.
