Triennial for Photography 2018 – A Prelude

May 6, 2017

On 20 May from 13.00 to 19.00, the Haus der Photographie in Hamburg will host an international symposium dedicated to the upcoming Triennial for Photography.
The 7th edition of the Triennial for Photography is set to take place in Hamburg in June 2018, under the heading of Breaking point – Searching for Change. An international symposium on 20 May 2017 precedes the festival, offering an advance preview of the festival’s multi-faceted exhibition programme.

The universe is in perpetual motion – nothing is constant but change itself. The 7th edition of the Triennial for Photography will be dedicated to the visible fractures that make us aware of the transformative process. Any event or decision has the potential to reshape the life of an individual or an entire society. With the medium of photography, time can be halted in order to focus on one moment: the moment in which change might occur.

Allusions to such a point in time can be found in the most ordinary of objects – such as a computer keyboard. We utilise it to communicate on a daily basis, but are rarely aware of the powerful meaning behind the familiar terms: space; home; shift; control; enter; return; delete. This terminology has now served as a guideline for Hamburg’s museums and art venues to develop exhibitions which reflect the festival’s overall concept, both individually and in combination with one another. The symposium, which will be held in English, offers a first insight into the projects and topics of exploration to be featured at the Triennial in one year’s time.

Free admission. Please register at symposium@phototriennale.de
