ISRAEL 1948-50

April 26, 2015

An exhibition of works by Robert Capa is showing at the Centre Culturel Français in Freiburg (Germany) until 3 June 2015.
Between 1948 and 1950, Robert Capa went to Israel on three different occasions. During his first visit, he was in Tel Aviv to capture the official declaration of the State of Israel on 14 May 1948, and subsequently documented the outbreak of the Israeli-Arabian war.

On the two trips that followed in 1949 and 1950, he particularly focused on the waves of immigrants arriving in Israel, documenting life in transit camps and the challenges facing the new-born Jewish nation.

A selection of these photographs is now showing at the Centre Culturel Français, presented as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the city's film festival "Freiburger Film Forum".
