Poulomi Basu was selected for her uncompromisingly complex depictions of conflict in Central India. Alejandro Cartagena’s entry takes a highly critical look at the repercussions of property ownership and suburban development projects in northern Mexico. Cao Fei was shortlisted for his dystopian multi-media creations, which explore the impact of technology on real-life experiences. Zineb Sedira was chosen for her auto-fictional investigations of memory, culture and belonging.
What all nominees have in common is that they use photography to convey subjective truths, and question political realities. The winner of the £30,000 (€33,500) award will we revealed in spring 2021.
