Larry Sultan exhibition

February 3, 2015

From February 5 to May 17, 2015, the Kunstmuseum Bonn is presenting the artist's first solo exhibition in a German museum.
In Germany on the whole, Larry Sultan (1946–2009) is only known by connoisseurs; but within the American art scene he is considered a central figure of post-conceptual photography. In 1977, together with Mike Mandel, he produced the media-critical Evidence series, which made a very important contribution to recent photography history; then, at the beginning of the 21st century, he caused a great stir with his The Valley series, which offered a glimpse behind the scenes of the pornography industry.

Organized by the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the presentation is the first solo exhibition of Sultan's work in a German museum. It is part of a series of exhibitions the museum is dedicating to more recent American photography, including proponents such as Mitch Epstein and Lewis Baltz. The comprehensive, retrospective offers an overview of Sultan's early work together with Mike Mandel, presented in a number of series.
