European Odyssey

April 29, 2015

The Magnum exhibition "Escape and Refuge since 1945" will be showing at the Mercator Foundation Project Centre in Berlin from 30 April to 13 June 2015.
Millions of people are currently attempting to reach European soil in a bid to escape from war, hunger or discrimination in their home countries. Yet in the continent's recent history, exile and banishment became a bitter reality for a vast part of its own population.

Over the course of decades, photographers of the Magnum Agency have documented the hardship and suffering of refugees. Magnum now presents an unprecedented selection of images spanning from 1945 to the present day.

The collection of 50 photographs is accompanied by historic press material as well as brief texts indicating the time period and context of the images. Among the works on display are photographs by Abbas, Werner Bischof, René Burri, Robert Capa, Cristina Garcia Rodero, Erich Lessing, Paolo Pellegrin, Moises Saman, David „Chim“ Seymour, Dennis Stock and Patrick Zachmann.
