‘Peak’: An online exhibition by Bastiaan Woudt hosted by Bildhalle Zurich.
Bildhalle Zurich presents the online exhibition ‘Peak’, featuring Bastiaan Woudt’s most recent series. The book of the same title is available to order on the venue’s website.
“Nepal – home to the world’s highest mountains and realm of the cold,” was the opening of a recent feature in the NZZ’s Sunday supplement. “A photographer from the flat Netherlands set out to be amazed. For almost a month, Bastiaan Woudt […] explored Nepal in the Himalayas. In the area around the Annapurna, he climbed to almost 6000 metres. The resulting images – which are now published in the form of a book – convey not only the cold beauty of this storied land of snow, but also the culture that was borne out of these extreme climatic conditions.”

Woudt’s landscapes are imbued with the same timeless aesthetic as the images that show the dignity of the people he encountered on his travels. His portraits – whether they depict 13 young monks from a monastery, or the owner of a tea house – always emphasise the pride, strength and wisdom of the Nepalese people.

Bastiaan Woudt’s work has been showcased in expos, galleries and museums around the world. He was selected as the New Dutch Photography Talent 2014. In 2016, the renowned British Journal of Photography described him as “one of greatest talents of the present day”. He was also recognised with the Van Vlissingen Art Foundation Award in 2017.
