LFI Workshop

June 27, 2016

The second LFI workshop with Dominic Nahr took place on 18 and 19 June 2016 – here are the results!
On 18 and 19 June 2016, LFI hosted their second workshop with Dominic Nahr. Before attending, participants were asked to research three possible reportage topics in preparation for the two-day workshop, culminating in an intensive programme of editing, one-to-one and group discussions.

The workshop focused on establishing a personal connection. Understanding a situation and entering the subject’s world both physically and emotionally creates a personal proximity that will be reflected in the photographer's work.

During the workshop’s practice phases, Nahr also offered one-to-one sessions to discuss and edit pre-existing works. Participants therefore not only created reportages in Hamburg, but were also able to complete previous projects, including series taken in Thailand and Cuba.

Dominic Nahr was born 1983 in Switzerland, and grew up in Hong Kong. While studying film in Toronto, he was already active as a freelance photographer. Nahr has won multiple awards, among them the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award in 2009. His work has been featured in publications such as Time, The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic Magazine, Stern and LFI.
