Chronology of a Failure

Jakob Schnetz

February 19, 2018

As part of a semester abroad, Jakob Schnetz spent six winter months in 2016/17 in Tomsk in western Siberia. Here he talks about his friend Jana.
“The portrait shows Jana and her friend Alexei in the apartment they share. Jana is one of the best friends of Lena, my flatmate at the time, and she is also one of the dazzling personalities of the music scene in Tomsk. In addition to her profession as a personal manager in a mid-sized company, she’s the singer in a feminist band called ВХОРЕ. I spent a lot of time with the fully-engaged band, at independent festivals in Tomsk, at concerts and on trips to other large cities is Siberia, such as Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Kemerovo. I was particularly impressed by the non-conformance, openness and warmth of this strong woman.”

You can find out more about Schnetz’s Chronology of a Failure series in LFI 2/2018, which comes out on 23 February.
