Resilience

“During the pandemic, we were asked to give up a lot of things in our life: jobs, relationships, homes, and even our dreams. When you have to choose which to let go of one by one, what is the one last thing you always hold tight to; that keeps you going? While covid-19 has stirred up the whole world, at least one thing was made clear to me – I can never live without dancing.

To be or not to be – isn’t it easier just to quit? It is indeed, but it will never be my option. And I hope the same goes for you.

Beryl, the dancer in this image, came from Singapore to study dance at Trinity Laban in London, the same school where I once studied. The pandemic wasn't easy for her either: she misses home so much, so we decided to do the shoot at Canary Wharf, as it feels more like home for her with its urban surroundings. To be more precise, the picture was created at the Adas Plaza bridge. The colours, the lines and the patterns within the space were very unique, and inspired us to create art on that day. During the shoot, we choreographed and danced together in order to create the composition. It felt very natural as we danced and tried to create something interesting. All in all, it took only two attempts in the course of one minute to get the photo! In fact, this is even our favourite image out of the whole collection. We like the power, the colour, the composition, and the whole energy of this image.“
