Behind the Scenes: Last Paradise

Ekaterina Sevrouk

May 21, 2019

Sketches and religious Baroque paintings were the inspiration for Sevrouk's series. As of May 24, Last Paradise will be on display at the ‘horizonte zingst’ Environmental Photo Festival.
“The degree of the destruction and exploitation of nature I found when working on earlier photo projects already shocked me. Then I got the idea that a stuffed animal might be a suitable metaphor for this. In my mind I saw the religious paintings from the Baroque era, where saints and martyrs were depicted surrounded by flowers. Instead of saints I used stuffed animals that I arranged among real plants. I made numerous sketches beforehand – my roots are in painting, and these sketches explain the approach to my work better than a thousand words.

It's very important to me that my series is now being seen in Zingst. It's a festival that has committed itself completely to nature – that's unique. My themes will be able to reach a wide public there!”
