Martin Roemers – Dhaka
The Anastasia Photo Gallery in New York is exhibiting photographs by Martin Roemers up until April 26, 2017. The Dutch photographer started working on his Metropolis series in 2007.
Using examples of mega-cities, i.e. cities with over ten million inhabitants, Roemers’ long-term project documents the process of urbanisation around the globe. With exposures of up to four seconds, Roemers photographed, among others, Dhaka, São Paulo, Beijing, Cairo, Mexico City and Mumbai.
The blurry movement in Roemers’ long exposure prints symbolises the hectic pace and progress, while also creating a stylistic framework, a constant which makes it possible to compare the individual mega-cities.
