Tattoo

September 2, 2013

On September 6, 2013, an exhibition titled "Tattoo" will open at the Gewerbemuseum Winterthur (Switzerland) as part of the Winterthur Cultural Autumn event
In winter hidden and invisible, in summer proudly on display for all to see: tattoos have become an ubiquitous trend. It is fair to say, however, that tattoos are more than just a contemporary mass phenomenon and fashion accessory: around the world, tattooing and using the human body as an art canvas are part of many cultural traditions. Consequently, tattoos represent one of the earliest art forms and oldest handicrafts.

The "Tattoo" exhibition has been put together by the Gewerbemuseum Winterthur and acts as an interface between culture, art and design, taking a look at the lively, innovative and multi-faceted tattoo culture of today. It will remain at the museum until June 9, 2014.

Among the artists with work on display are: Emanuelle Antille (CH), Chris Eckert (USA), Herbert Hoffmann (DE/CH), Christian Poveda (FR), Fumie Sasabuchi (JP) and Artur Żmijewski (POL).
