Photojournalism in Focus

January 26, 2026

For the fourth time, the WARS Photography Award calls for powerful images that capture the profound human impact of armed conflict and war. Submissions are accepted until February 15, 2026.
The international contest – which was initiated by the Italian association 46° Parallel ETS – sees itself as a platform for visual narratives that go beyond classic news coverage, by capturing the emotional, social and humanitarian dimensions of current crises around the world.

Entries should take the form of a reportage comprising 15 to 20 images, at least 10 of which must have been taken after January 1, 2024. Both published and unpublished stories are eligible, and long-term projects are expressly welcome. Submissions close on February 15, 2026 – participation is free of charge.

The WARS Award jury consists of accomplished experts from the international world of media and photography. The contest’s artistic director is renowned photojournalist Fabio Bucciarelli, whose work documents conflict and crisis regions around the globe and has been published worldwide. He is joined on the jury by LFI’s photo editor Carol Körting, along with photojournalists Diego Ibarra Sánchez and Nicolò Filippo Rosso.

The winners will be announced on the WARS Photography Award website as well as the social media channels of its affiliated partners. The first-place winner stands to receive € 2,000, while two runners-up will be awarded € 1,000 each. In addition, the chosen projects will be presented in a touring exhibition starting at Le Gallerie di Piedicastello in Trento, Italy, in spring 2026.
