Nature and humanity were always at the centre of Kiarostami’s oeuvre, which is infused with a poetic sense of solitude, lightness and serenity. This exhibition offers insight into the artist’s cinematic work, complemented by a selection of around 60 photographic images. The exhibits stem from a private collection and the holdings of the Galerie de France in Paris.
Abbas Kiarostami is one of the most important Iranian artists of the twentieth century, famous for directing internationally acclaimed world cinema films such as Through the Olive Trees (1994), The Wind Will Carry Us(1999) or Like Someone in Love (2012). His artistry as a film-maker was so revered that Jean-Luc Godard once wrote: “Film begins with D.W.Griffith and ends with Abbas Kiarostami.” Interestingly, Kiarostami always maintained that “photography is the mother of cinema”.
