Margherita Spiluttini is widely regarded as one of the most significant Austrian photographers of international renown. Born in the Pongau region in 1947, she initially trained as a medical laboratory assistant, before turning to artistic photography in the late 1970s.
The exhibition ‘Margherita Spiluttini − Photographs from the 1980s’ features works from the artist’s early oeuvre, which has never been showcased on such a scale. Parts of the exhibition have been newly compiled from the photographer’s archive.
The selected images document Spiluttini’s journey to finding her own, distinctive visual language. They also illustrate the influence of her personal surroundings, as well as her involvement in the political issues of her time, including the women's movement.
