The 16 scheduled showcases revolve almost entirely around the topic of food, which is explored from a broad range of perspectives. Leica Gallery Zingst presents the exhibition ‘Until the Corn Grows Back’ with works by Lys Arango. In this project, the Spanish photographer shines a light on the far-reaching effects of climate change. Hundreds of thousands of small-scale Guatemalan farmers have been affected by destroyed harvests – resulting in wide-spread undernourishment and malnutrition. Arango investigated this concerning issue with a focus on the everyday realities of families and their children.
At the Zingst Heimatmuseum, the series ‘Tempora Morte’ by Berlin-based photographer Lia Darjes takes visitors to the roadside markets of Kaliningrad and other cities in the former Soviet Union: every day, elderly men and women set up small, makeshift stalls, offering homegrown and foraged produce in order to supplement their meagre pensions. Fascinated by this micro-economy, Darjes translated their modest arrangements into a striking series of documentary still-life photographs.
