Mehrfar was born and grew up in Long Island, New York, the daughter of Iranian parents. She lived in Sydney, Australia, from 2008 to 2016, where she received an MFA from the University of New South Wales, Art & Design. She taught Photo Media at various art colleges. Her work has been exhibited internationally; and she has received numerous grants, awards and residencies. The Moon Belongs to Everyone is her second book, following Tall Poppy Syndrome (published in 2012). The artist and photographer currently lives and works in New York.
