Born in Medellín, Colombia, in 1997, the documentary photographer is interested in social is-sues, inequality and violence. Mesa studied journalism and has a Master’s in Visual Arts. He took a Documentary Photography course at Hanover University. He has received a number of national and international awards, including the Sony World Photography Award 2020, the POY 2025 and the World Press Photo Award 2025.

One Place, Two Worlds

The indigenous Sikuani people of the Meta Department in Colombia are fighting to to reclaim their ancestral territory, which in the meantime has been settled by Mennonites. Working with a Leica Q, the photographer highlights the cultural differences between the two communities.
