...was born in New York on December 15, 1947, and has been living in France since 1971. Her work reflects a deep attachment to her subjects over long periods of time. She has published numerous books and is the recipient of many awards for her work, including the W. Eugene Smith Award (1980), the Grand Prix Paris Match (1990), the Leica Oskar Barnack Award (1997) and Le Grand Prix Photo Albert Khan (2018).
