Exhibition: The Darkroom Project

October 4, 2014

Italian analogue BW photography will be presented at the VHS Photogalerie in Stuttgart from 9 October to 16 November 2014.
An initiative of Italian photographer Luciano Corvaglia, The Darkroom Project aims to revive an interest in the processes of the darkroom. Following great successes in Italy and Arles, the VHS Gallery is the first German venue to facilitate the project on a large scale. Curator Rüdiger Flöge has selected 50 images by 28 photographers with the intention of offering a broad and multi-faceted overview of Italian analogue black-and-white photography in the past few years.

In addition, a Darkroom Contest will take place during the first three evenings of the exhibition. Five participants will compete in developing the same negative, working one after the other throughout the evening. Each evening, they will be presented with a more challenging negative than the night before. A live-feed of the contestants' work directly to the gallery's screens will enable visitors to follow the participants' progress, and observe every step of the magical process of analogue photo development.
