Abandoned Barracks

Created with the M9: "The Last Post" by Stefan Winkelhöfer
Deserted barracks, desolate wastelands – and empty coffers for many businesses. For his publication The Last Post, Stefan Winkelhöfer explored the grounds of an abandoned military base in Germany. Since the end of the Cold War, disused military sites can be found in every part of the country. Many of them have been converted to serve new purposes, others still stand abandoned.

Suspended between endings and beginnings
Shot with the M9, Winkelhöfer's photographs capture the sensation of being suspended between destruction and new beginnings. His images evoke abandonment and loss, hope and anticipation – perfectly illustrating the dreamlike state between what was and what will be.
