Into the World

The Flo Peters Gallery in Hamburg marks Robert Lebeck's 85th birthday with a comprehensive exhibition
In collaboration with Stern magazine, the Flo Peters Gallery in Hamburg presents an exhibition spanning almost sixty years of Robert Lebeck's work as a photojournalist and photography artist. Titled In die Welt (Into the World), it will be running from 21 March to 17 May 2014.

The selection includes little-known vintage prints of images taken on Lebeck's extensive travels around the globe, capturing people, cultures, familiar and exotic scenes. His later work is also represented, featuring many of the images and portraits that contributed to his reputation as a remarkable observer of the times he was living in. As an eye-witness with not only an ever-ready camera, but a very personal approach to his subjects, Lebeck's work became a significant element of many newspapers, magazines and photographic collections.

Robert Lebeck (born in 1929) is one of Germany's most acclaimed photojournalists. Since the fifties, his images have shaped the visual character of numerous magazines and newspapers, most notably the leading German magazine Stern. His role in photojournalism extends beyond his own career – he is also an avid collector of historical works from the beginnings of documentary photography.
