Andreas Gursky | Neo Rauch | Jeff Wall

August 31, 2014

For the first time, photography artists Andreas Gursky and Jeff Wall exhibit with the painter Neo Rauch. The exhibition at the Kestnergesellschaft in Hanover is open until 26 October 2014.
For the first time, photography artists Andreas Gursky (*1955) and Jeff Wall (*1946) exhibit with the painter Neo Rauch (*1960). The three artists' extensive bodies of work share a common theme, forming the basis for this unusual juxtaposition: each artist has built on the tradition of the figurative image, only to develop it much further and re-invent it within the context of contemporary art.

The exhibition provides a shared platform, allowing the viewer to perceive important connections between the artistic approaches of Gursky, Rauch and Wall. There are, in fact, no paintings among the displayed works. Instead, the selected artworks – drawings and sculptures by Rauch along with large format photographs by Gursky and Wall – illustrate how the three artists have used methods traditionally associated with paintings to create something entirely new.
