Concrete Photography is a purist style of rendition that avoids iconography and symbolism in favour of referencing only itself. Roger Humbert (born 1929 in Basel, Switzerland) is a pioneer of this genre, and the author of an oeuvre that spans from the 1950s to the present day. The Fabian & Claude Walter Gallery in Zurich now presents some of the artist’s most important works; the solo exhibition features a selection of photograms from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, created with experimental light sources and formal elements, as well as more recent images taken in the past 20 years. Humbert’s own description of his work is as succinct as it is profound: “I photograph the light”.
