Germany’s Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations (IFA) presents the double exhibition ‘with/against the flow’ at the G Museum of Art in Nanjing, China. The represented photographers – Sebastian Stumpf and artist duo Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs – each use performative interventions as a central part of their work. While Stumpf places his own body in relationship to urban landscapes and spaces, Onorato & Krebs work with pyrotechnics and wooden constructions, making them an integral part of real-life architecture through the skilled use of optical laws and perspectives. Both approaches expand our understanding of photography, film and visual documentation.
In order to promote a mutual cultural and artistic exchange, the core exhibition is complemented by the works of five Chinese photography artists: Ge Yulu (b. 1990 in Wuhan), Li Binyuan (b. 1985 in Yongzhou), Dong Wensheng (b. 1970 in Ganyu), Jiang Pengyi (b. 1977 in Yuanjiang) and Zheng Zhiyuan (b. 1977 in Shanghai).
