The exhibition marks the third time gallery owner Ute Noll is hosting the winning works of the renowned Swiss Newcomer Award at the Uno Art Space in Stuttgart. Established in 1995, the award is given out by the Zurich-based Association of Photographic Designers (VfG). With approaches that range from subjective to formally aesthetic and even mysterious, the participating artists offer insights into contemporary photography. The VfG Newcomer Award represents a platform for talented young artists, who each year present new visual concepts and innovative ways of execution to their audience.
Jessica Wolfelsperger was chosen as the first-prize winner of the award's 19th edition. This year's jury consisted of Melody Gygax, Beatrice Mächler, Christoph Kern, Jessica Auer and Ester Vonplon – who described Wolfelsperger's series, titled 'Wide Awake Sleep', as "single black-and-white stills of a film that is not being shown. They are pictures full of secrets and mysteries of the night."
The jury also honoured Jean Luc Andrianasolo, Florian Bärtschiger, Marie-Pierre Cravedi, Piero Good, Sabrina Gruhne, Olivier Gschwend & Anthony Martins de Macedo, Claudia Link, Matheline Marmy and Paulo Wirz.
