The exhibition ‘Tender are the Nighthawks’ with works by Leica photographer Sarah M. Lee is on view at London’s Aperture Gallery until June 10, 2023.
Through to June 10, 2023, the Aperture Gallery in London presents a showcase of works by renowned Leica photographer, Sarah M. Lee. The British artist – who freelances for The Guardian and The Observer, and whose images have graced the covers of publications such as AnOther Magazine, Billboard, Intelligent Life, Prospect Magazine, Rolling Stone, The Sunday Times, TIME Magazine, and Vanity Fair – has also been an official BAFTA photographer since 2014. In addition, Lee is a Leica Ambassador, as well as a Fellow of the British American Project and the Royal Society of Arts.

‘Tender are the Nighthawks’ is an ongoing project focusing on the hours between 2 and 4 a.m., when Londoners embark on their last journey of the night. “I’m a night owl and rather than feel I’m wasting the post-midnight hours when I should be sleeping, I decided a few years ago to start a series that would make a virtue rather than a vice of my topsy-turvy circadian rhythms,” Lee says of herself. This gave rise to the series ‘Tender are the Nighthawks’, which was previously featured in LFI 2/2018

A closing event will take place at the gallery on 1 June, 6:30 pm. Photographer Sarah M. Lee will talk about her series with Sonoko Nakanishi, the programme curator at Aperture Gallery.
The event is free of charge, registration is not required.
