PAOLO SOLARI BOZZI

January 12, 2016

Leica Gallery Salzburg presents the Italian photographer's exhibition 'My View of Zambia and Namibia', open from 15 January to 27 February 2016.
Paolo Solari Bozzi (*1957) was 15 when he first embarked on his journey with photography. In the eighties, he worked as a solicitor for an international law firm in Italy, relocating to Switzerland in 1990. There was little time for taking photographs.

Only in the years after 2000 did he find himself drawn back into the darkroom. In 2010 he built a new, larger darkroom while improving on his magnification technique, eventually deciding to make his passion an important part of his life.

One year later, he was diagnosed with a malignant and aggressive tumour, which he successfully managed to overcome. The following year, as a reward for his victorious battle against illness and the completion of chemotherapy, he and wife Antonella spent five months travelling through the countries of Southern Africa in Bozzi's Land Rover TD5.

The resulting photographs have been published in the form of two books, 'Zambian Portraits' and 'Namibia Sun Pictures', both of which will be presented as part of the exhibition.
