From June 10 to August 27, 2016, the Thierry Bigaignon Gallery in Paris is presenting an exhibition of colour photographs by Ralph Gibson. Cloud formations behind the blurry silhouettes of cacti, lines and diagonals in two-dimensional duality.
With his new Vertical Horizon series, the American artist (*1939) explores the somewhat whimsical compositions in the filigree borderline between his opposing motifs. Thanks to the balance between natural reproduction and abstraction, the centre of the portrait-format pictures inevitably draws the attention of the viewer.
Best-known for his contrast-rich, black and white pictures, Gibson has now, once again, taken a journey into the world of colour, and presents twelve – mostly hand-signed – high-quality, powerful prints.
