From September 20 to 25, Leica will be welcoming visitors to Photokina with its professional presence in Hall 2.1. As the Official Photography Partner of Photokina 2016, Leica will also be staging the impressive Masters of Photography exhibition in the almost 2000 square meter Leica Gallery in Hall 1. The presentation will be showing 15 series of photographs with more than 400 works by acclaimed Leica S, SL, and M photographers.
Every day up until the opening of the world photography trade fair on September 20, we will be presenting one of the pictures series. Today it is Short Flashes by Wiktoria Wojciechowska
It was the typhoon season when Wiktoria Wojciechowska spent various months in 2013/2014 at an artistic residency in the Chinese city of Hangzhou. With no knowledge of the language, she did at first feel a bit lost in this mega-city – lost and anonymous like the two-wheeled commuters pedalling by. Over a number of months, Wojciechowska took portraits of the nameless cyclists and moped riders in the fleeting moments as they passed by. She photographed them battling against the elements, their expressions revealing their inner state while their colourful rain ponchos fluttered in the wind. Wojciechowska captured these fleeting moments of everyday life in China and titled them Short Flashes. The series earned her the 2015 Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award.
